Lochlea 5 Year Old

It’s hard to believe that Lochlea Distillery is already 5 years old. It seems like just yesterday that the distillery was fully commissioned and we were able to start making our own spirit! A lot has happened in those 5 years: our team has grown from 3 to 15, we launched our core single malt ‘Our Barley’ and have seen our whisky reach 25 markets across the world. To commemorate this milestone, we wanted to do something special, and launching our first ever age statement whisky seemed the perfect choice.

The Lochlea 5 Year Old is a vatting of 5 casks hand-picked by Production Director John Campbell, including 2 casks from the original filling back in 2018.

The cask make up is as follows:

• Cask #249: First-fill Oloroso Sherry

• Cask #25: First-fill Bourbon

• Cask #272: Double matured Oloroso Sherry

• Cask #295: Double matured PX Sherry

• Cask #20: First-fill Bourbon

The 5 casks used to create the Lochlea 5 Year Old

Opening with brown sugar and baked pineapple, the rich cake-like notes of the nose give way to citrus zest and candied pear crumble on the palate. Tangy orange peel slowly melts into sumptuous caramel on the finish, accompanied by hints of black pepper, rose petals and leather.

This whisky sits at 50% ABV and, as with all of our whiskies, is non-chill filtered and natural colour.

As this release was derived from just 5 casks, the Lochlea 5 Year Old was limited to 2,000 bottles worldwide, meaning it sold out extremely quickly.

However, this is not the end of Lochlea age statements, as we’re continuously looking to the future and planning as far ahead as a Lochlea 30 year old release! In the meantime, we have plenty of fantastic whiskies for you to savour, and you can find your nearest Lochlea stockist here
