Meet the Team: Kate

In our Meet the Team series, we’ll find out a bit more about the people involved in producing Lochlea single malt whisky.

Today we’re talking to Kate McCormick, our Logistics Manager.

What does your job involve?

I’m involved in everything apart from making, selling or marketing the whisky! Specifically, I look after operations, dry goods and overseeing shipments to our UK and Export customers.

What’s your favourite memory?

My favourite memory is from one of my many trips to South Africa. I was there with my friend for her 21st birthday and we went to Cape Town. We decided we wanted to visit Cape Point, which was a 3 hour drive away, so I had the bright idea to hire a moped. We were almost there when we reached a particular patch of road that was covered in baboons. Naturally, I stopped as I was afraid, and when we eventually decided to drive through, I made my friend promise that she’d get photos of them. When we looked back at the camera, there were photos of my feet, her feet, the back wheel of the moped, some grass, the top of a tree and the shoulder of a baboon. Despite this, all in all it was a good trip!

What’s the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done?

Many years ago, one of my ex colleagues had arrived at work on a big, fancy, gold motorbike. I’d asked him if he could take me for a ride on it at lunchtime, and the minute I got off that bike I knew I wanted to get my motorbike license. So I booked a week off of work and did a crash course, by god it was tough! But a week later, I had my full motorbike license.

What’s something you’ve always wanted to learn?

I’m currently learning the guitar, which I’ve probably been learning for about 30 years and not mastered it yet! But I do tend to pick it up again and again to relearn. I’ve promised myself I will become a country singer.
